International Seminar on Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

The International Seminar on Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) was held on 6 December 2012, in Zagreb, Croatia, as a further step in already initiated peer learning process within the NQF Cluster of knowledge.

The aim of this event, organized jointly by the Croatian Ministry of Science, Education and Sports and the Institute for the Development of Education, was to bring together some of the findings from the RPL related Project 'University Recognition of Prior Learning Centres -Bridging Higher Education with Vocational Education and Training', provide the opportunity to learn about the RPL practice in some leading European countries and to discuss some critical implementation issues as well. For that purpose, an expert faculty of speakers from France, Scotland, Poland and Croatia presented their expert views on implementation of RPL.

Moreover, some of these findings provided an input for further discussions amongst national representatives in the Joint TFBHC and ERI SEE Cluster of Knowledge: Development of National Qualification Frameworks which has been labelled as an initiative belonging to and supporting the EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR). One of the objectives of the Cluster is to create an environment where participants can exchange ideas, issues and questions on how the RPL policy builds on development of National Qualifications Frameworks.

In addition to the local participants from Croatia, the Seminar gathered the representatives of education and labour market sector from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Kosovo*, Macedonia, Moldova, as well as the experts from the European Training Foundation – ETF.
